2022 WSF World Junior Squash Championships

The Canadian team, including athlete Mohamed Kamal from Mcgill, finished in 10th place at the World Junior Squash Championships held in Nancy, France.

This was the last junior competition for Mohamed Kamal who played his last game in the consolation semi-finals in the individual championships.

Karim Michael meanwhile accumulated 2 wins and 1 loss in individual championships. He played his last game in the round of 16.

Commonwealth Games

David Baillargeon participated in his first Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England. It was in the Men’s Double event that David and his teammate Nick Sachvie reached the quarter finals to play an exciting match where they lost in three sets against the English Adrian Waller and Daryl Selby (11-10, 5-11, 8-11).

Congratulations to Canadian player Hollie Naughton who brilliantly made it to the final and won a silver medal at the Games. She was also Canada’s flag bearer at the closing ceremony. A new page in history for the squash community in Canada.

Preparation for the 2023 Canada Games

Four boys and four girls will be selected this fall to wear the colors of the Team Quebec at the Canada Games to be held in February 2023 in Prince Edward Island.

During the summer period, young talent had the opportunity to participate in training sessions organized by Sophie Joubarne, Maxym Leclair and Dave Philips.

We look forward to following the journey of these young athletes over the coming months.

Sophie Joubarne winner of a Squash Canada award

Squash Quebec congratulates Sophie Joubarne for her certificate of achievement awarded by Squash Canada for her continued contribution to the squash community in Quebec.

Sophie has been actively involved for many years in the squash community in Quebec. She has played on provincial teams and has been an avid volunteer at events and on various Squash Quebec committees. Enthusiastic and passionate, she is a real person of heart. She is responsible for the development of junior players in the province, an area where hard work and dedication are essential. She is also Quebec’s coach for the 2023 Canada Winter Games. In 2021 and early 2022, she notably organized a free discovery/development camp for young girls aged 10 to 18 as well as training sessions for Elite women in the province of Quebec. She is also Quebec’s coach for the 2023 Canada Winter Games.

We are infinitely grateful for his significant involvement with the Quebec squash community.

The work, involvement and significant contributions of Yvon Provençal were also honored by Squash Canada during the Squash Canada 2022 Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony on June 18th.

He was presented in 2021 with the NCCP Coach Developer Award given to the most deserving and influential Coach Developers in Canada through the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC) annual awards program . Yvon is a valuable resource for the Squash Canada coaching program. For more than 20 years, he led the development of coaches in Quebec and across Canada. He continues to be a benchmark for many Canadian coaches.
